The Campus Group Join portlet gives users the ability to join a Campus Group.
The Campus Group Join portlet displays:
When the user clicks the "Join" hyperlink next to a campus group on the Browse Groups screen of the Campus Groups portlet
On the public page of an "Open" Campus Group:
The Campus Group Join portlet is configured to display one of several Join Group screens, one for each type of membership enrollment. The membership enrollment of a Campus Group may be configured as follows:
Open to new members, no application required
This is the same as "Public" membership enrollment. Public campus groups appear in the campus group directory.
Example: The Jazz Band campus group has a membership enrollment that is public, open to new members, and requires no application.

When the user clicks the Join Now button in the Campus Group Join Portlet circled above, the portlet redraws with "You are currently a member of Jazz Band":
Click the Groups hyperlink in the You are here: breadcrumb trail to see that Jazz Band has been added to Your Groups:
Open to new members, by application
Example: The campus group, Asian American Christian Fellowship, has an enrollment that is open to new members by application. Here is its home/default page:
When you click the Click here to apply to join button in the Campus Group Join Portlet circled above, the portlet displays the following Join Group screen:
Fill out the application form presented and click the Submit Application button when finished. The portlet acknowledges your application:
Click the Return to campus groups hyperlink. The campus group that you just joined, Asian American Christian Fellowship, now displays in the Browse Groups screen and indicates that you are a prospective member:
NOTE: while you do see the new campus group displayed in My Groups, you may not have access to the campus group pages until your application has been accepted by the campus group's manager.
Open to new members, by invitation only
Example: The campus group, Italian Club, is public and open to new members by invitation only. However, when the user browses campus groups, the Italian Club has Closed next to it. In this case, the only way a user can join Italian Club is if he or she is invited to join, or if the club's manager re-opens Italian Club for new membership.
When a user is invited to join Italian Club by the campus group manager, the portlet sends a message to the user, e.g.:
Hello,
We would be thrilled if you would join our group, Italian Club.
Please visit the group's home page at ./Campus_Life/Campus_Groups/Italian_Club/ to join.
Sincerely,
Italian Club Group Leaders
The message goes to the invitee's email account that has been configured in My Info.
NOTE: it may take 30 minutes for the invitation to arrive.
A campus group is closed to new members, if the number of members has reached the maximum configured for the group, or the campus group manager has closed it for enrollment.

The public campus group appears in the campus groups directory. A public campus group can be:
open to new members, no application required
open to new members, application required
open to new members, by invitation only
closed for enrollment
The private campus group does not appear in the campus groups directory. By definition, membership in private campus groups is by invitation only. If a user is invited to join a private campus group, he will automatically be enrolled in that group. The invitation is still sent to the new member, but the new member does not have to accept the invitation, as he already has access to the private group.
The Campus Group manager configures the different Join Group screen messages, one for each type of membership enrollment. Read the Campus Group Manager portlet topic for details.
NOTE: It may take up to half an hour for the Campus Group Join portlet to process Campus Group membership and for new members to be able to access campus group pages.
